MATERIAL EXPLORATION AND SAMPLES
In an interdisciplinary class called Furniture into Textiles, furniture design and industrial design students were paired with textiles students to collaborate on a piece of furniture. Students were instructed not to use metal and explore creating structure with textiles.
My partner Lauren Klein (RISD Textiles '18) and I explored weaving with many experimental materials. Finally we ended up weaving with foam and astrotruf. We created a chair that references the familiarity of suburban living by using astroturf to bring the common lifestyle into contemporary space, using process to come to an ultimate design conclusion of combining indoor and outdoor aesthetic. Lauren and I were selected to continue developing our chair and created a new prototype for the Salone del Mobile Milan 2017 and the ICFF 2017.
